Terms of Use

Last updated: 30 October 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are the agreement between you and Synion OÜ (“we”, “us”) for the Watsin app for iPhone (“Watsin”, “the app”) and the services behind it. Please read them before you create an account. By creating an account or using Watsin you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Watsin.

How we handle your personal data is explained separately in our Privacy Policy.

Important: Watsin’s product information is generated by AI and can be wrong. Product evaluations, scores, ingredient flags, ingredient explanations and chat answers are produced automatically from package labels, product databases and web searches. They can be incorrect, incomplete or out of date. They are not medical, dietary, nutritional or allergy advice. Always read the label on the package itself, especially if you or someone you buy for has an allergy or intolerance. See section 5.

02These Terms and Apple’s terms

2.1 Apple’s Standard EULA. Watsin is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”) applies to your use of the app together with these Terms. The Standard EULA grants the basic licence to use the app; these Terms add the rules for the Watsin service, your account, credits and subscriptions. If the two conflict, these Terms apply between you and us to the extent the Standard EULA allows.

2.2 App Store purchases. Purchases you make in Watsin are also governed by Apple’s terms for the App Store (the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions).

2.3 Privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process and why. It is not part of these Terms, but please read it.

03Who can use Watsin

04Your account

4.1 Creating an account. You create an account with your name and email address, and optionally an invite or coupon code. Please give us accurate information. An account is for one person; do not share it, sell it or let others use it.

4.2 Signing in. Watsin has no passwords. Each time you sign in, we email you a one-time 6-digit code (and a button that signs you in on the device where you asked for it). The code works once and expires after 60 minutes. Anyone who can read your email can sign in to your Watsin account, so keep your mailbox secure. If you think someone else has used your account, tell us at contact@watsin.app.

4.3 Invitations. You can invite friends from the app. Only invite people you know and who would expect to hear from you. We send your friend one email with an invite code, in your app language and showing your display name. The code works once and expires after 7 days. When your friend creates an account with your code, you both receive bonus credits (the amount is shown in the app). To prevent misuse we limit how many invitations can be sent, and we may withhold or remove bonus credits obtained by inviting yourself, using addresses that are not real people, or otherwise abusing invitations.

4.4 Coupon codes. We or our partners may give out coupon codes that add credits to a new account at sign-up. Each code has its own conditions; for example, it may expire or be usable only a limited number of times.

4.5 Data on your device. Your saved products, chat history, Threads and profile fields are stored only on your iPhone, as the Privacy Policy explains. We do not keep a copy on our servers, so we cannot restore them if your device is lost or the app is deleted. Signing out keeps them on the device for when you sign in again.

4.6 Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and the data the Privacy Policy lists (section 9 of the Privacy Policy), including your credits, and removes your Watsin data from the device. It cannot be undone, and unused credits cannot be restored or refunded. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription you bought through Apple: cancel it first (see section 6.5).

05AI-generated information: please read

5.1 What is generated by AI. The following are produced automatically by AI models:

5.2 Where it comes from, and why it can be wrong. This information is based on Watsin’s product database, information found on the web, and photos of package labels, processed by AI models from third-party providers (listed in our Privacy Policy). Product databases and websites can be out of date or describe a different version of a product; recipes change; packaging differs between countries; photos can be misread; and AI models can make mistakes, leave things out, or state things that are not true with confidence. We cannot guarantee that any of this information is correct, complete or current.

5.3 Not advice. Watsin gives general information about packaged food. It is not medical, dietary, nutritional or allergy advice, and it does not replace a doctor, dietitian or other qualified professional. A score is an automated, general assessment, not a health or safety rating. The daily nutrition values Watsin uses when you have not set your own are general reference values, not a recommendation for you. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or follow a diet for health reasons, ask a professional.

5.4 Allergies and intolerances. Watsin cannot tell you whether a product is safe for you to eat.

5.5 Your decisions. You decide what to buy and eat. Please check anything that matters to you against the package. If you find wrong product details, you can help by using Report this product or Re-scan in the app.

5.6 Liability. Our liability for this information is set out in section 13.

06Plans, credits and payments

6.1 Free use. Creating an account and scanning products by photo or barcode are free. Reading the labels of a product that is not in our database is also free, up to a daily limit on label photos. Products’ ingredient lists and nutrition tables, your saved products and your profile are available without credits.

6.2 Credits. Unless you have Watsin Unlimited, the following use credits: product evaluations and scores, ingredient flags and explanations, chat replies and Threads, translated product names, web search for products that are not in our database, and re-scanning a saved product’s labels to correct it. How many credits a request uses depends on how much work it takes. Your balance is shown in the app’s menu. New accounts start with a balance of free credits, and you can get more through invitations, coupon codes or by buying credits. When your balance runs out, these features stop until you add credits or subscribe.

Credits are not money. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, transferred to another account or sold, and are deleted with your account. We may change how many credits a feature uses, but credits already in your balance stay there.

6.3 Watsin Unlimited. Watsin Unlimited is an auto-renewable subscription, offered for the periods shown in the app (currently 3 months and 1 year). While it is active you can use the AI features without using credits; the credits you already have are kept for later. Unlimited is linked to the Watsin account you were signed in to when you subscribed. Reasonable-use limits still apply (section 6.8).

6.4 Paying through Apple. All purchases are made through Apple’s in-app purchase system and charged to your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card details. Prices are shown in the app before you confirm a purchase and may differ between countries.

6.5 Automatic renewal and cancelling.

6.6 Refunds. Because Apple handles all payments, refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies. You can request one at https://reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves. This does not affect your rights under consumer law: if something you paid for does not work as described, please also contact us and we will help.

6.7 Restoring purchases. If you reinstall Watsin or move to a new iPhone, sign in with the same email address and use Restore Purchases on the Subscription screen in the app.

6.8 Reasonable use and limits. To keep Watsin working for everyone and to prevent abuse, we apply reasonable limits, such as a daily limit on label photos and limits on invitations. These apply to every user, including Watsin Unlimited subscribers. We may limit or suspend use that is automated or clearly abusive.

07Acceptable use

When you use Watsin, you agree not to:

08Your content

8.1 What you provide. When you use Watsin you provide content such as photos of the front of packages and of labels, the label text and product details read from them, product reports, chat messages and the text of your profile fields.

8.2 Your rights. You keep any rights you have in your content.

8.3 Product contributions. Front-of-package photos and the product details read from labels are used to recognise products and to build and improve Watsin’s product database. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to store, copy, process, adapt and use them to operate, maintain and improve Watsin and its product database. This licence continues after you delete your account; at that point the link between these contributions and your account is removed, as the Privacy Policy explains. Label photos themselves are deleted once they have been read.

8.4 Messages and profile fields. Your chat messages and profile fields are used only to give you the answers, flags and evaluations you ask for, as the Privacy Policy describes. They are stored on your device, not on our servers.

8.5 Your promise. You confirm that you have the right to provide your content and that providing it does not break the law or anyone else’s rights.

8.6 Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely and without any obligation to you.

09Our rights in Watsin

The Watsin app, its software, design, name and logo, and Watsin’s product database belong to Synion OÜ or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the Standard EULA, for your personal, non-commercial use and in line with these Terms.

Product names, brands and packaging shown in Watsin belong to their owners. Watsin is not affiliated with or endorsed by the manufacturers or retailers of the products it shows.

10Third-party services

Watsin relies on service providers for hosting, AI models, text recognition, email and payments; they are listed in our Privacy Policy. We remain responsible to you for Watsin as these Terms set out. We do not control the third-party websites that web-search results come from, and we are not responsible for their content. Apple processes payments under its own terms.

11Availability and changes to Watsin

We work to keep Watsin running smoothly, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. It may be unavailable during maintenance, because of problems with our providers, or because of your network.

We continue to develop Watsin. We may add, change or remove features, change which features are free and which use credits or Unlimited, and change usage limits. The products in our database also change over time. If a change significantly reduces what you have already paid for, we will tell you in advance; you can then cancel, and where the law gives you that right, you can ask for a refund for the unused part through Apple or by contacting us. Some updates of the app may be needed to keep using Watsin.

12Ending your use of Watsin

12.1 By you. You can stop using Watsin at any time and delete your account in the app (section 4.6). Cancel any subscription separately with Apple (section 6.5).

12.2 By us. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires us to, or to protect Watsin or other users from harm. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

12.3 If we close Watsin. If we decide to stop offering Watsin, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance, in the app or by email. You can then ask Apple for a refund for any subscription period you have paid for but cannot use; contact us if you need help with this.

12.4 What continues. Sections 5, 8.3, 13 and 15 continue to apply after your use of Watsin ends.

13Our liability

13.1 Reasonable care. We provide Watsin with reasonable care and skill. Because its product information comes from databases, the web, label photos and AI models, we cannot guarantee that it is accurate, complete or current (section 5).

13.2 Relying on product information. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or harm that results from relying on Watsin’s product information, scores, flags or answers instead of the information on the package or the advice of a qualified professional.

13.3 What we never limit. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for intentional or grossly negligent breach, for death or personal injury caused by our fault, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law. Nothing in these Terms limits your mandatory rights as a consumer, including your rights where digital content or a digital service is not as described.

13.4 Other limits. Apart from the cases in 13.3, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you started using Watsin, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Watsin in the 12 months before the claim and EUR 50.

15Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country.

If you have a problem with Watsin, please contact us first at contact@watsin.app; we will try to resolve it with you. As a consumer you can also turn to the Consumer Disputes Committee (Tarbijavaidluste komisjon) of the Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (https://www.ttja.ee).

Disputes are decided by the Harju County Court (Harju Maakohus) in Estonia, unless the law gives you the right to bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.

16Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms, for example when we change Watsin or when the law changes. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree to the changes, you can stop using Watsin and delete your account before they take effect (and cancel any subscription with Apple). If you continue to use Watsin after that, the updated Terms apply.
